Wolfe Acquires SUICIDE ROOM at Cannes Adding to Four New Releases for North America Market including TRIGGER, MANGUS, JUDAS KISS, and LEADING LADIES

SAN JOSE, CALIF. (May 18, 2011) — Wolfe Video has acquired DVD and VOD rights to SUICIDE ROOM at the Cannes Film Festival market. SUICIDE ROOM (Sala samobójców) from award-winning Polish filmmaker Jan Komasa (Ode to Joy), is the story of Dominic, a privileged teenager on the verge on entering college and following his parent’s vision of the good life. But his world turns upside down when he realizes that he is gay. He retreats into virtual online communities for comfort, eventually finding the mysterious Suicide Room – to the great alarm of his family.

Music, dance, romance plus teenage angst and chances for redemption: these universal themes characterize the range of films recently acquired by Wolfe Releasing, the world’s largest exclusive distributor of gay and lesbian films. TRIGGER, MANGUS, JUDAS KISS and LEADING LADIES and SUICIDE ROOM are scheduled for release on the Wolfe label on both DVD and VOD this fall. “These films tell stories that go beyond the coming out genre,” said President Maria Lynn. “They will touch many audiences.”

TRIGGER –   The story of two women who started a highly successful rock n’ roll band, only to have their friendship – and the band- fall apart. A dozen years later they meet again, and over the course of one evening rediscover friendship, remember rock n’ roll and reignite chaos. Trigger (nominated for 4 Genie Awards) was the last film made by beloved Canadian actress Tracy Wright (Monkey Warfare, You are Here).

MANGUS – A dark comedy in the spirit of Sordid Lives. Mangus Spedgewick, a high school senior in Rivercity, Texas, hopes to fulfill a family tradition by playing the role of Jesus in his local annual production of “Jesus Christ Spectacular,” but must fight unforeseen extreme obstacles to win the part. The latest from Ash Christian (Fat Girls).

JUDAS KISS – When a failed filmmaker returns to his college alma mater to judge a film festival, a quirk in time and space gives him the chance to magically reshape his destiny – a la Sliding Doors, or A Christmas Carol. Stars award-winning actor and gay icon Charlie David (Mulligans, TV’s Dante’s Cove).

LEADING LADIES – An infectious family comedy about two sisters, their larger than life stage mom, and their gay best friend. Starring So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Melanie LaPatin and Season Two winner Benji Schwimmer (plus cameos from some of your favorite SYTYCD dancers), Leading Ladies is an exciting indie alternative to Glee and High School Musical.

“It’s an exciting time for independent cinema and we are actively looking at major festivals and  international markets for films that Wolfe can bring to the North American market,” said President Maria Lynn. “Wolfe is thrilled to represent so many new films with such a wide audience reach.”
